It's worth pointing out that not all roofers are able to fit and repair all types of roofing. For example, the majority of roofing contractors will be able to work on slate or tiled roofs, but few will be sufficiently trained or qualified to construct fibreglass or rubber flat roofs.

As with everything, there is good and bad when it comes to finding local roofing companies. Some will turn up with a set of ladders and claim to be 'professional roofers', when in reality they are nothing more than charlatans, claiming to be something they're not. If you are looking for a roofer, try to find one who has a certain level of credibility. This may come in the form of references or testimonials from customers who have used the roofing contractor in question, it may come in the form of membership to one of the roofing governing bodies (such as National Federation of Roofing Contractors or Confederation of Roofing Contractors, or it may just come in the number of years that the roofer has been in business.
