Trials Blog - Frustration

I’ve never broken a bone before so have never realised or understood how debilitating it can be.

scaphoidfracture.jpgI‘m a left hander when it comes to writing, so having my left hand in plaster puts paid to that.  I can’t hold a fork properly, I’m unable to shower when I like and when I do I have to put a plastic bag over my pot to stop it getting wet.  Driving is a nightmare and not entirely legal, I would imagine and things which, for the sake of decency, I will put under the bracket of ‘bathroom - other’ are nigh on impossible!  I am going to be in pot for 6 weeks – 5 if I am lucky.

Of course, I’m off the bike too and will have to spend a total of 13 weeks out of the saddle (even though the bike doesn’t have one!)  Unable to ride, all I can do is watch the other lads.  I’m racked with jealousy as I go to Swainey Woods to chat to the lads and time drags horribly slowly as I wait until I can ride again.

I do have plenty of time on my hands now, though so I’m going to put that time into watching whatever I can watch to learn whatever I can learn.  My few weeks training with Gareth has left me enormously enthused and looking forward to riding my bike again, so I want to make sure that I don’t go all the way back to square one when I am allowed to ride again.

After scouring through and watching numerous YouTube videos I come across one by a chap called Ryan Young.  It seems Mr Young has won a thing or two in his time over in the USA.  He had explained how to do a wheelie very well on his short YouTuber so I decided to buy the DVD.  After tracking down the full DVD I parted company with my £30 and waited patiently for the training video to arrive.  When it did arrive I was treated to an absolute feast of trials riding skills, very well explained by Ryan Young and, of course the beauty of DVD’s are that you can watch them again and again until you’ve absorbed what you need to.

I’d recommend the Ryan Young ‘beginner’ DVD to anyone who rides at a clubman level or below.  Its full title is Trials Training Techniques and Cross Training Tools.  It’s really great to watch over and over again.  Well, what else can I do?
